Show them Love

Act 3:17-20
(17)  "And now, brethren, I know that you acted (26) in ignorance, just as your (27) rulers did also.
(18)  "But the things which (28) God announced beforehand by the mouth of all the prophets, (29) that His Christ would suffer, He has thus fulfilled.
(19)  "Therefore (30) repent and return, so that your sins may be wiped away, in order that (31) times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord;
(20)  and that He may send Jesus, the Christ appointed for you,

Observation
17. The Jews along with their religious leaders did not know Jesus was the Messiah or they had not believed it to be true. Jesus did not fit their idea of what the Messiah was supposed to be like.
18. Peter tries to prove to the Jews that Jesus was the Messiah. He did not excuse their sin but tried to bring them to the point of repentance.
19. Now he calls them to repent of their sins and to turn to God.
20. Jesus would now come in the form of the Holy Spirit.
Application
Peter could have beat them over the head with the fact they had killed the Messiah but he tried to show them love and bring them to Christ for salvation. We too should not only focus on peoples sin but on the love of God and what is in store for them if they accept Christ.

Trust Him

Act 3:13-16
(13)  The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified his servant Jesus. You handed him over to be killed, and you disowned him before Pilate, though he had decided to let him go.
(14)  You disowned the Holy and Righteous One and asked that a murderer be released to you.
(15)  You killed the author of life, but God raised him from the dead. We are witnesses of this.
(16)  By faith in the name of Jesus, this man whom you see and know was made strong. It is Jesus' name and the faith that comes through him that has given this complete healing to him, as you can all see.
Observation
13. God has healed this man and Peter now tells the Jews that they had put Jesus on the cross.
14. Jesus was innocent of any crime and the religious leaders had not proved he had done anything wrong yet they set a criminal free because they hated Jesus.
15. Jesus is the giver of life but was killed and raised again.
16. This man was healed because Peter had faith Jesus could heal him and not because of Peter. Peter wants these people to examine what has happened to see that only God could have done this.
Application
We must trust in God's power if we want to see Him do miracles in our lives and in others.

Glorify God

Act 3:9-12
(9)  And all the people saw him walking and praising God:
(10)  and they took knowledge of him, that it was he that sat for alms at the Beautiful Gate of the temple; and they were filled with wonder and amazement at that which had happened unto him.
(11)  And as he held Peter and John, all the people ran together unto them in the porch that is called Solomon's, greatly wondering.
(12)  And when Peter saw it, he answered unto the people, Ye men of Israel, why marvel ye at this man? or why fasten ye your eyes on us, as though by our own power or godliness we had made him to walk?

Observation
9,10. Those who had seen him everyday now saw a man who had been healed by God and so they knew this had not been faked.
11. Peter used this opportunity to preach to the people. The healing of this man had drawn a crowd.
12. The people were ready to praise Peter and John for this miracle but Peter gave the glory to God. He knew he was only an instrument of God but God had done the healing.
Application
When God does something in our lives we must always make sure we give honor to God and not ourselves.

Just Be Obedient

Act 3:5-8
(5)  And he gave heed unto them, expecting to receive something from them.
(6)  But Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but what I have, that give I thee. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.
(7)  And he took him by the right hand, and raised him up: and immediately his feet and his ankle-bones received strength.
(8)  And leaping up, he stood, and began to walk; and he entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God.
Observation
5. The man thought that Peter was about to give him something.
6. Peter did this miracle through the authority and power of Christ. He did not try to say he healed this man.
7. Peter encouraged him by taking the man's hand to do what he asked. This could have only been done through the power of God.
8. It was the natural to just give God praise for  this miracle. No one else deserved the praise.
Application
This is how we should react when God asks us to do something. We should just be obedient and do it. I know it is easier to say than to do. God can use us to do miracles in the lives of others also. We may not be used to heal someone but we can lead someone to Christ. When God does something in our lives we should let someone know.

Pray

Act 3:1-4
(1)  Now Peter and John were going up into the temple at the hour of prayer, being the ninth hour.
(2)  And a certain man that was lame from his mother's womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the door of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms of them that entered into the temple;
(3)  who seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple, asked to receive an alms.
(4)  And Peter, fastening his eyes upon him, with John, said, Look on us.

Observation
1. They were praying at one of the times of the day that Jews set aside for prayer. It was about 3 pm in the afternoon and they were actually in the courtyard of the temple.
2. This man had always been lame and was seen daily by many and so this could not have been faked.
3. This man was here to beg.
4. Peter asks for the man's full attention so the lame man would know this miracle was done by Peter.
Application
Prayer should be a big part of our lives.

Affecting Others

Act 2:44-47
(44)  And all that believed were together, and had all things common;
(45)  and they sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all, according as any man had need.
(46)  And day by day, continuing stedfastly with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread at home, they took their food with gladness and singleness of heart,
(47)  praising God, and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to them day by day those that were saved.
Observation
44. Those who had accepted Christ  had the same mind or purpose for living and shared their possessions.
45. It does not mean they sold everything but were willing to give up possessions if other Christians had need.
46. They were in the temple at different times of the day for prayer. Accepting Christ had changed their lives and it showed even in the ordinary tasks of life.
47. The people who became Christians had an affect on the community and partly because of this many more became Christians.
Application
We too should have an affect on those around just by how we live. We should care about the needs of other Christians.

New Converts

Act 2:41-43
(41)  They then that received his word were baptized: and there were added unto them in that day about three thousand souls.
(42)  And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' teaching and fellowship, in the breaking of bread and the prayers.
(43)  And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles.
Observation
41. Three thousand accepted the message of Christ and then were baptized and added to the church. If a person's salvation is real then they should be baptized and become members of the church as soon as possible.
42. These new Christians were eager to learn more from the Word of God and to be obedient to the teachings of Christ.
43. There was a sense of awe over what was happening since the Spirit had been given.
Application
The world should be in awe over what God can do through His people. We should let Him use us in this way.

Turn To Christ

Act 2:37-40
(37)  Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and the rest of the apostles, Brethren, what shall we do?
(38)  And Peter said unto them, Repent ye, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ unto the remission of your sins; and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
(39)  For to you is the promise, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call unto him.
(40)  And with many other words he testified, and exhorted them, saying, Save yourselves from this crooked generation.
Observation
37. Peter had given them the truth and told them how they had crucified their Messiah and now they were in grief over what they had done. They now wanted to know what they needed to do to escape the wrath of God.
38. Peter now instructs these people to agree with God that they are sinners and to turn from their sin and then to Christ. They then are to identify themselves with Christ by being baptized. After asking Christ into their lives they would receive the Holy Spirit.
39. This promise of salvation through Christ is offered to all men but they must accept Christ as Savior for themselves.
40. Men need to turn to Christ for salvation and then away from evil and it's influences.
Application
The only way to heaven is through Christ. We must be in the world but we should not allow it to have control over or influence us.

Jesus the Messiah

Act 2:33-36
(33)  Being therefore by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he hath poured forth this, which ye see and hear.
(34)  For David ascended not into the heavens: but he saith himself, The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand,
(35)  Till I make thine enemies the footstool of thy feet.
(36)  Let all the house of Israel therefore know assuredly, that God hath made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom ye crucified.
Observation
33. Jesus was exalted by the power of God from the state of humility that He had here. When Jesus was ascended the Holy Spirit was allowed to come.
34. Again Peter is trying to prove that the Psalm he is quoting does not apply to David but to Jesus. Jesus was part of  the lineage of David but David is trying to say that Jesus is his superior.
35.
36. Peter had offered up proof that Jesus is the Messiah. Peter states that they had murdered the Ruler over everything and their Messiah.
Application
Jesus is God and our Savior.

He is Alive

Act 2:29-32
(29)  Brethren, I may say unto you freely of the patriarch David, that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us unto this day.
(30)  Being therefore a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins he would set one upon his throne;
(31)  he foreseeing this spake of the resurrection of the Christ, that neither was he left unto Hades, nor did his flesh see corruption.
(32)  This Jesus did God raise up, whereof we all are witnesses.
Observation
29. Peter now begins to show that the Psalm he is speaking of  does not tell about David but is about Jesus.
30. Jesus would be a successor to David's throne but it would be in a spiritual sense. Jesus was in David's family tree.
31. David spoke of what would happen to Christ in the future.
32. The 120 in the upper room saw Jesus after He had risen from the grave. This was proof enough that Jesus was alive.
Application
We too can rest in the fact that more than a 120 people saw Jesus after His death. We have a Savior who is alive not dead.
